Plan your lessons
Create a scheme of work for your subject and stream, build weekly lesson plans inside it, and publish when ready.
You're a teacher mapping out the term: one scheme of work per stream lays out the roadmap, and weekly lesson plans fill in the detail. Both live under your subject, save as drafts while you work, and become visible to your class teacher and school leads only when you publish.
Before you start
You need to be assigned as a teacher of the subject in that stream — lesson planning follows your teaching assignments, so a subject you don't teach won't offer these options. The current academic year must also be unlocked (it normally is).
Step 1: Open your subject
In the left sidebar, click My Subjects and open the subject you're planning for. On the subject page, switch to the Schemes of Work tab.
Step 2: Create the scheme
Click New scheme. A dialog opens — "One scheme per stream, per term. You can duplicate it to your other streams afterwards." Fill in:
- Title — e.g. Term 1 Scheme of Work.
- Stream — pick from the streams you teach.
- Start from — either Blank document or one of the templates your school has published. A template pre-fills the document with the school's standard structure.
- Term — the term this scheme covers.
Click Create scheme (it shows Creating… briefly). The scheme opens as a Draft.
One scheme per stream, per term
Each stream-and-term slot holds exactly one scheme. If you teach several streams, create the scheme once and duplicate it to the others rather than retyping — the duplicate also starts as a draft you can adjust.
Step 3: Write the document
The scheme is a full rich-text document — headings, lists, and tables — so you can lay out weeks, topics, and objectives however your school prefers. It saves as a draft; only you see it at this stage.
Step 4: Add weekly lesson plans
From the scheme, add a lesson plan for each week — each one carries a week number, a title, an optional planned date, and its own document (which can also start from a school template). Plans belong to the scheme, so they automatically sit in the right subject, stream, and term.
Step 5: Publish
When a scheme or plan is ready, open its ⋯ menu and choose Publish. Use the All / Draft / Published filter at the top of the tab to see where everything stands. Publishing is reversible — Unpublish returns it to draft.
What happens next
- Published schemes and plans become visible to your stream's class teacher and to staff with lesson-planning access. Drafts stay yours alone.
- Everything you create here belongs to the academic year you're viewing — once that year is locked, schemes and plans become read-only history.
