Set up a class

Create a class, add its streams, and enroll students.

You're a school admin getting a campus ready for the year. You need a class for your students to sit in — say Senior 3 — split into a stream or two, with students enrolled into it. This guide walks you through all three: creating the class, adding its streams, and enrolling students.

Before you start

You need permission to manage classes. If you don't see Classes under the Manage section in the sidebar, ask a school admin to grant it. Make sure you're on the right campus first — the campus name shows at the top of the sidebar.

Step 1: Open Classes

In the left sidebar, open the Manage section and click Classes. You'll see the classes this campus already has, split across two tabs: O-Level and A-Level. Pick the tab the new class belongs to.

Step 2: Start a new class

Click Create Class (top right). If this tab has no classes yet, the Create Class button sits in the middle of the empty page instead.

Step 3: Fill in the class details

In the Create Class panel, enter:

  • Class Name — what staff will see, e.g. Senior 3. Required.
  • Grade Level — the short grade code, e.g. S3. Required.
  • Level — choose O Level or A Level. Required.
  • Progression Order — a number that sets where this class sits in the year-to-year order (e.g. 1 for the first year). Optional.
  • Description — a short note about the class. Optional.

Click Create Class to save.

Progression order helps later

The order you set here is how the app proposes a student's next class when you enroll them year after year. Numbering your classes in sequence now saves guesswork later.

Step 4: Add a stream

A stream is a section within the class — for example Senior 3 A and Senior 3 B. Open the class you just created (click its card in the list), then choose to add a stream.

In the Add Stream panel, enter:

  • Name — the stream's label, e.g. A. Required.
  • Capacity — how many students it can hold, e.g. 45. Optional.
  • Description — a short note. Optional.

Click Add Stream. Repeat for each stream the class needs.

Streams are optional

A small class can run with no streams at all. Add them only if you split students into sections.

Step 5: Enroll a student

Enrolling is done from the student, not the class. Open the People section in the sidebar, click Students, and open the student you want to place. From there, start a new enrollment.

In the Enroll form, set:

  • Academic Year — which year this enrollment is for. The current year is pre-selected. Required.
  • Class — pick the class you set up. Required.
  • Stream — pick a section if the class has streams. Optional.
  • Enrollment Date — the date the student joins. Required.

Click Create Enrollment.

A suggested class

If the student was enrolled before, the app proposes their next class based on the progression order and shows a hint at the top of the panel. You can always change it.

What happens next

  • The new class appears in the Classes list under its level tab, showing its stream count and student count.
  • Each stream you added shows up inside the class.
  • An enrolled student is now placed in that class (and stream, if you chose one) for the academic year, and counts toward the class's student total.

Enroll more students

Repeat Step 5 for each student — open each student's profile and start a new enrollment. The form closes after each one.
